Don't be a Poo Head

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year!  Chad and I rang in the New Year with just the two of us this year.  We ordered some ready made food from Fresh Direct, picked up some beer, and had a grand ol’ time.  We also invoked and oldie but goodie to pass the time, a puzzle!  350 pieces and bought at the dollar store.  We added a level of difficulty by making a drinking game out of it:  Every three pieces I would connect, Chad would have to drink and visa versa.  Not complicated, but effective.  We only made it about halfway though the puzzle before I had to end the game and declare Chad the champ.  Darn his amazing puzzle skills!  We eventually did finish the puzzle sans drinking game (and at the end, we realized that two of the pieces didn’t fit quite right, hence why it was only $1).  It’s one of two puzzles I’ve ever finished in my life. Woo-hoo!

So now it’s the New Year and everyone is making resolutions.  Post a comment and let me know what yours are.  I think I will make it an objective to write more than two posts this year.  So stayed tuned, there is much more to come!

Thanks, I Needed That

I needed a win.  I just didn’t know it until it happened.  Last Thursday, my new improv group Slayer! won Round 1 of the Prestige Improv Competition at Stand Up NY Comedy Club.  The winner was chosen by round of applause and we won by a landslide.

In the few months since my last performance, I had somehow forgotten the wonderful feeling I get from the sound of applause.  When I’m on stage and I hear the sound of hands clappling and the “Whoots” and “Oh, yeahs”, I’m washed over with a sense of warmth and satisfaction.  My heart races and I can’t stop smiling.  It’s darn near close to euphoric!  And is, in fact, addicting.  It instills a confidence in me that I’m on the right path, that in some small way I’m fulfilling my destiny.

So thank you to everyone who came out last night.  Not only for the win, but for helping me regain my confidence.

New Year’s from Times Square!

Written By: nikihart - Jan• 04•11

I got to see the ball drop in Times Square this New Year’s!  It only took 11yrs. to accomplish, but I can now check it off my not-yet-written Bucket List.  Writing a Bucket List is #1 on my Bucket List.

Growing up my “big plan” was to welcome in the new millennium in Times Square.  Instead, on New Year’s Eve 1999, I was at some lame party in Kansas at a friend of a friend of a friend’s trailer house.  Not the magical evening I had anticipated.

But this year was.  My husband and I went to a friend’s office building that is near Times Square and we had an amazing view of the ball from his office.  It was so much better than standing in the crowd 17 floors below us where it was cold, you can’t drink alcohol, and there were no bathrooms.  I was so excited when the countdown began, I almost forgot to watch the ball!  It fell, the 2011 sign light up, and I kissed my husband.  It was perfect.  An amazing start to the New Year.

A Christmas List

Written By: nikihart - Dec• 23•10

Traditionally my husband and I travel to Kansas to spend Christmas with my family, but this year we’re staying home. Though I will miss spending time with my family, there are some things I will definitely not miss:

  • Crowded airports
  • Choosing between being fondled by the TSA or a bombardment of radiation
  • Screaming children
  • Flight delays and spending 3 hours in an airport Chi-Chi’s
  • Getting the annual Christmas cold
  • Spending a week in Small Town USA where you can’t get food delivered and the entire town closes at 9:00pm, the one bar in town stays open ‘till a whopping mid-night
  • Going to Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve and running into the whole town, where each and every person just HAS to talk to me and ask how scary it is to live in NYC and then tell me how they could never live there.
  • Having to smile through above situation and act like it’s the first time I’ve ever heard it.
  • Crowded Airports, it’s really worth mentioning twice.

Whether you are traveling or not, have a safe and happy Christmas. And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, enjoy the Chinese food.
